Your database

Last reviewed:

Your project has separate development and production databases. The platform sets up and manages the connection without requiring you to copy a database URL or paste it into chat.

Setting up the database

  1. 1

    Open “Database”

In your project workspace, click “+”, then “Database” if the tab is not open. An owner or editor can start setup.

  2. 2

    Wait for setup

On the first visit, setup starts automatically when the service is available and no database exists. If “Create database” appears, click it. Wait for the ready message; this can take seconds or longer.

  3. 3

    Handle a setup error

If setup fails, read the message and retry after any stated waiting period. If database activation is pending, setup is unavailable in this environment; contact support.

  4. 4

Ask for the feature you need

Once ready, ask Codey to store products, orders, or other data in your database. Provisioning alone does not create every table your app needs. Open “Data” to review the tables created.

Which database does each part use?

  • Development preview and Codey’s project work use development data when real connections are allowed. The “Data” editor reads and changes development data only.
  • Deployment uses the production database. Data saved by users of the published website goes there.
  • “Saved copies” save and restore production data. Schema updates show changes applied to or pending for production.

Development rows are not automatically copied to production on deployment. Different orders or products in preview and the live website may be a result of this separation. Do not restore a production copy to recover rows deleted from the development editor.

Preview in a shared project

When a project has team members, preview uses temporary test values to protect real secrets, even when the owner starts it. Features requiring a real database or external service may not work there. The owner controls deployment, which uses production settings. Tell Codey that an error occurs in shared-project preview before changing secrets.

What connection information is visible?

The database tab shows readiness and how the app can use the connection, but does not reveal the database URL. This managed connection is encrypted and is not listed among ordinary secrets you can reveal or delete. Ask Codey to use your database rather than entering a URL manually.
