The data editor and SQL
Last reviewed:
The “Data” tab lets the project owner browse tables and SQL results. It works only on development data. The table grid is read-only, while SQL commands can make real changes.
Browsing tables
- 1
Prepare the database and open Data
Wait for setup to finish in “Database”. Open “Data” from “+”, then choose “Tables”.
- 2
Choose a table
The list shows tables and views. Click one to see columns, types, and rows. If the list is empty, ask Codey to create the tables your app needs.
- 3
Move between pages
Use “Next” and “Previous” below the table. A page contains 50 rows, and the count beside the table name is approximate. Clicking a cell does not edit it.
- 4
Retry a connection failure
If the database appears asleep, click “Wake the database” and wait a few seconds. If the error persists, check database readiness and your connection, then reopen the tab.
Running SQL
- 1
Open “SQL”
Inside “Data”, choose “SQL”. Read the notice that queries run on development and that modifying commands change data directly.
- 2
Enter one statement
Start with a simple read query. You can use the example below to check the connection without modifying tables. Do not combine multiple statements in one request.
- 3
Click “Run”
Or press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter. Wait for a result grid, success message, or error. Do not repeat a modifying command before checking the previous attempt’s result.
- 4
Review the result
Queries returning columns show a result grid. Changes without returned columns show a message with the affected row count. On a SQL error, correct the statement or ask Codey to explain the message before retrying.
SELECT 1 AS connection_check;Editor limits
- One SQL statement per request, up to 100,000 characters.
- The statement timeout is set to 15 seconds and the connection timeout to 10 seconds. Network delays can make the response take longer.
- Free-form queries display at most the first 1,000 rows. Narrow or split your query for larger result sets.
- The table and view list contains up to 2,000 entries and excludes standard system catalogs. This editor has no switch to production.
- Requests are rate limited. If asked to wait, follow the stated delay instead of repeatedly clicking.
The 1,000-row limit caps displayed results, not the number of rows a modifying command can affect. SQL can insert, update, delete, or drop tables without an extra confirmation dialog. Review the effects before running it. Connection isolation and time limits do not make every query safe for your data.

Example prompt for the assistant
“I want to view recent orders in the development database only. Explain the query before I run it, and do not delete or modify any data.”
